Landscape Garden Ideas About Kids Landscape Ideas

James asks…
I need landscaping ideas to cover an electric fence.?
I have a 1 & 3 year old & our neighbor just put up an electric fence between our lots. We put about 20 lilacs & weegolas along the back part (couple hundered yards).
I need ideas to fill up a long skinny strip (about 100 foot long 4 feet wide) that lines our driveway. I mainly want a barrier so the kids won't go near it. Nothing can touch the fence as it is electric. That rules out any climbing vines etc.
One idea I like a lot is pampus or feather reed grass. But I think 100 feet all of the same would look odd. Any ideas?
Thank you!
I'm in zone 4 (wisconsin).
I guess I didn't clarify well enough. We are not in a residential area. We own about 3 acres. Our neighbor's lot comes up to ours & they own 11 horses.
Another fence is not an option (says hubby). He doesnt' want to put the effort that. Just planting.
Again, the dimentions are like 100 feet long by 4 feet wide. This leaves room for only one strip of foliage / plants / grasses etc. No room for tall next to the fence then flowers in front (although that would look great).

Suggestions needed to frame two photos of my kids ...?
I have a picture of each of my kids, from shortly after their birth, in a similar sleeping pose. I would like to get them framed together, and would love some ideas.
they are landscape orientation. I was thinking of trying to have them side by side, with their name and birth year written in caligraphy underneath the photo. Of course, I can't find anything like this in prepared frames (most frames/mats for two photos are in vertical orientation, or if they are landscape, they are one on top of the other - and then I don't know where to write their names).
Any tips or ideas? Any place I should go to for this type of arrangement?

landscapeliving answers:
Have them photoshopped into one photo and have the facts lettered on in a nice calligraphic script.

Art project with monuments ideas?
I'm working on my final project for my Art class - its for Elementary education (something that young kids will be able to do) and I'm suppose to have it relate to Maya Lin's previous work. My instructor would like me to look at her monuments (Vietnam Veterans Memorial) to come up with something. My original idea was based on her architecture and landscapes, but I need help trying to get ideas for kids around 5th graders to do a project like hers. Does anyone have any ideas? that would be amazing if I could get a little bit of help!

landscapeliving answers:
Maya Lin took something that was important to a nation and made it art. Ask yourself. What is important to a 5th grader? A monument to parents, a monument to friends. I really like the idea of creating a globe(you could do this with paper mache) and painting it, then gluing or sticking paper people around the globe holding hands. It would show that we are all alike and all one.And would be fun for a 5th grader.
I don't know. Think of what a 5th grader would consider fun. What would they consider important.
Maybe they are concerned about the environment, so you could do something around that. Anyway good luck with your project

What are the chances of training an adult golden retriever to co-exist with a cat?
Here's my situation:
I am watching a golden retriever of some friends of ours for several weeks while they get some landscaping work done on their house. They and their three kids have never really paid much attention to the dog, have always kept her outside and I don't really think they want the dog. My hunch is that when their work is done and it's time for the dog to go home they will ask us if we just want to keep her. I wouldn't mind doing that, but we have an entrenched cat in the house who wouldn't take kindly to sharing the roost. Also, since she's spent her whole life outdoors (5 years or so) I'm wondering if there's any chance I could "domesticate" her so she could stay indoors.
Any help / ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks everybody for your thoughts. This dog is definitely a sweetheart, I make it a point to play fetch with her for an hour or so a day and she absolutely loves it. I think I will bring her in and put her in her crate and see what happens. Right now the cat keeps a watchful eye on the goings on in the backyard from his window perch, it's actually pretty funny to watch.
Not to bring anybody down, but in the week plus I've had her all I've gotten from her owners is one email asking how she's doing. None of the kids are clamoring to come visit her or anything. I know when I was a kid if our dog were to go away somewhere for any length of time I would have been bugging my mom and dad to go for a visit.

I actually think that she will be so grateful to have a person pay some attention to her that she will fit right in. Golden's are very human oriented and if she has been ignored by her family she may be a bit shy at first but she will warm up quickly. Golden's are usually very tolerant of cats and find them as a friend not an thing to chase or try to harm. I've know Golden's who have adopted rabbits as their buddies and have even snuggled right up to them and fallen asleep. You will have to test her out at first and then make a decision your self. Golden's are very smart and loving dogs and should be very easily trained. They live to please their owners.
If anything the cat may harm her with a swat across the face so be watchful ok.
Start off slowly with her and watch her personality just bloom right before your eyes. It will take you aback to see how well she will respond to you.
I wish you all the very best and I do so hope you decide to keep this girl. Every Golden deserves a person or family to really love and appreciate them.
NOTE: Thats really sad that her owners have only contacted you once. Then for it to be by e-mail and not by phone, sorry but thats pretty cold. Maybe if you've gotten really fond of her you should offer to her now present owners that you would be willing to keep her. I bet they would jump at it.

Lorry driver, age 34 and want to get away from driving.?
I like to work outside, maybe something like gardening, forestry or landscaping. What sort of training is required and any ideas about income whilst training. I have a partner and 2 kids.

landscapeliving answers:
Sorry to say but there are a lot like you that are trying to get out of the LGV business due to the strains and pressures now-a-days There is a chronic shortage of lorry drivers and this is why. As for these other jobs you mention it`s a case of starting with a firm that is willing for you to expand your skills on job training. If you are thinking about college you would have to contact a Government dept about any payments or benefits you would be entitled too.
